Quick Blog-Mostly Pics

Okay, so this is going to be a quick blog. We've had a busy past two weeks. We've had several fun times with friends and I have so many more pics to post and stories to tell, but this will have to do for now.

Cadence has been staying awake more the last 1.5 weeks and started smiling, which I love!! Below is a pic of her at five weeks, in one of her favorite nightgowns.

Here is Cadence at six weeks, sporting one of her new dresses. Absolutely adorable!

We finally got a good picture of Preston & Cadence. This is the first time he's agreed to hold her. He's been very loving with her, but for some reason has been opposed to holding her until this point. Now he wants to hold her all the time. He's such a great big brother!

Preston has been working really hard to potty train over the last two weeks. He gets a gold star every time he goes (2 if he tells us he needs to go & actually goes). We told him he'd get special prizes for every 10 stickers. He got his first 10 this past weekend and his granny bought him a "flute". That's what they call it on Dora and he refuses to call it a recorder - after all, Dora's smarter than me, right? Anyway, I took him outside to teach him how to march and play at the same time. I think he did a great job for a 2.5 year old. I'm so proud!!

We've Got A Ten Pounder Y'all

And no, we're not talking fish here - we're talking Cadence's weight. We went for her one-month checkup today. Getting to the doctor was a bit of a challenge because Cadence woke up around 5:30 and never went back to sleep so I had a little difficulty trying to eat breakfast, get ready, and get on the road by 10:30. We made it though and of course, she was super tired and cranky; however, given the circumstances, she did well.

Her current stats:

10 lbs., 2.5 oz. - 70%

21.5" long - 58%

The doctor said she looks good and is growing well and to come back in a month (there was a little more to it than that, but I won't bore you with the details). Cadence did have to get one shot today. I think they added a sleep potion to the shot, because she slept for 3.5 hours after we left, which gave me time earlier this afternoon to get some things done. Speaking of sleeping, she's still doing well in that area and only waking up once in the middle of the night. One night this week she actually slept 6 hours!! (A mommy could get used to that.)

All in all, she's perfect ;)

4 Weeks

This past Friday Cadence turned 4 weeks old, tomorrow she will officially be one month old and we'll go for her one month checkup on Wednesday. I had to take her to the doctor this past Thursday because her left eye kept 'gooping up'. They gave us some drops and it's looking much better. They did weigh her while we were there and she was up to 9 lbs. 13.5 oz., so I'll be interested to see what her weight is on Wed. and how much she's gained in a week.

Right now her schedule still consists of eating, sleeping, and pooping most of the day; however, she is starting to have a little longer periods of being alert during the day. At night she's doing really well, and usually sleeping about 4-4.5 hrs. at a time (which means I really only have to get up once in the middle of the night).

Starting this past Friday, I'm going to try to get a picture of Cadence every Friday in the same chair and post it on here so that everyone can see how much she's growing from one week to the next. Several of my friends have done this and it's amazing to see the growth. Below is her four week picture. I just love the dress she's wearing in this one...one of my favorites! I also added a cute pic of her and Preston. (Blogger is getting on my nerves because I can't get the pics & captions where I want them...it can be done, but it's taking too much of my time.)

Cuppy Cake

So it's been a while since either of us has posted anything. And now I guess it's up to me (Lori) since Ryan abandoned our blog to create his own ;) As most of you already know, we've had a recent major change in our lives...the arrival of Miss Cadence Lynn. She will be one month old this Friday and we've spent the last few weeks adjusting. We love getting to know her and her personality. Preston has been a great big brother and has been very helpful. We've had our moments, but overall Preston's been wonderful and Cadence is a great baby - already starting to sleep more regularly at night! (I hope I didn't just jinx myself by typing that.) I am still a little sleep deprived, but hanging in there (that's my disclaimer because I'm sure most of this blog will be a big run-on thought with no structure and will probably have grammatical errors.)

Since I'm nursing Cadence, we've obviously spent A LOT of time together over the last few weeks, which hasn't left many hours in the day for me to have one on one time with Preston. I used to help get him ready every morning and mostly did the nighttime routine, so I've been missing my special time with him. So, last Saturday Cadence took a good nap in the afternoon and I decided that Preston and I would make cupcakes (since he and Ryan requested them). He's never helped me in the kitchen before but he had a great time. He did have to leave the room when I used the mixer because he does not like loud noises, but otherwise he was a great little "chef". As expected, he got batter on his fingers during the process and asked for a napkin. I told him to lick his fingers instead because it would be yummy. He looked at me kind of funny, but he quickly discovered that I was right and then wanted to intentionally stick his fingers in the batter so he could lick them again. I told him we couldn't do that, but that when we were finished he could lick the bowl (a favorite past time of mine)!

I only iced one cupcake at dinner time because they weren't quite cool enough and I was tired, but I promised Preston he could have one before bed. I have to give props to Ryan because he later went back to the kitchen and iced all of the cupcakes for me. (He was being very quiet in the kitchen and when he finally told me he was icing the cupcakes I was a little concerned, but he did a GREAT job with the icing and sprinkles!)
