Ok, last night I had Daddy-duty while Lori and Pam went shopping. Preston and I had a lot of fun. He stayed up way past his bed time so he was a little "giddy" when I took this video. He's walking VERY well now so I just wanted to put this out there for you guys!

Visit with Santa
Well, today we ventured out to meet Santa. Ok, Pam ventured out for the most part....we caught up with her after church. She sacrificed the hour until we got there. What a sport.
Anyway, here's a short little clip of Preston's first encounter with Ole' St. Nick! As expected, Little Man wasn't too happy at first but considering he had to wait over an hour....in the mall....with a bunch of strange people....he really did a good job.
Enjoy!

Preston Videos
Ok....so this is my first time blogging. Well, at least on our site. After a few hours of trying to find some freeware on the internet to help us split some of our videos, I think I have finally found something....so....I'll be attempting to add two small videos for your viewing pleasure.
Please excuse the quality of the videos. We couldn't quite get the setting rights with the camera we were using. It's ok though, Preston's still a stud!!! :-)
These were taken about 2 weeks ago...he's now walking pretty regularly and for long distances. I have a strong feeling that by Christmas, he'll be doing more walking than crawling. Oh boy.....

Christmas the Rickards' Way
Okay, so we stole this "top 20 Christmas things about me" from a friend's blog...but we have a few minutes to spare while we watch Frosty the Snowman, so here goes...
1. Wrapping paper or bags?
Lori: Wrapping paper. Even though it often frustrates me, I really do love wrapping presents.
Ryan: Wrapping paper.
2. Real tree or Artificial?
Lori: I really like real trees, but I'm allergic. So, we have a really nice artificial one. (Even though I'd still like to have a pre-lit one because that would be so much easier.)
Ryan: Real one but the artificial ones are nice, too.
3. When do you put up your tree?
Lori: Usually the weekend of Thanksgiving or shortly thereafter.
Ryan: Preferably the day after Thanksgiving but it's usually a little later.
4. Do you like egg nog?
Lori: Never tried it, but the idea of drinking anything with the word "egg" in it makes me gag.
Ryan: No, don't guess so.
5. Hardest person to buy for?
Lori: Ryan, because he's one of those people who just goes out and gets what he wants.
Ryan: Probably my Mom
6. Easiest person to buy for?
Lori: My mom
Ryan: Me :-)
7. Worst Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
Lori: Everyone usually does really well, so I can't think of anything.
Ryan: All the gifts I've ever received are all thoughtful and meaningful in some way :)
8. Best Gift?
Lori: When Ryan had our house painted and crown moulding put up while we were gone to Charlotte for a weekend to see the Panthers. I had NO idea that was in the works.
Ryan: Hard to say - every gift is a good gift - but my Clemson golf bag was a really nice one.
9. Have you ever recycled a Christmas gift?
Lori: Yes. One man's "trash" is another man's treasure.
Ryan: I'm sure.
10. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Lori: It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.
Ryan: A Christmas Story.
11. Favorite Thing to Eat at Christmas?
Lori: Sweet potato casserole, coconut cake, and Honey Baked Ham.
Ryan: Fried turkey, deviled eggs, and peanut butter pie - pretty much anything Mom, Grandma and all the other wonderful chefs cook!
12. Clear lights or colored?
Lori: Colored!!! I know some people think they are tacky - but I think they're fun and go well with all my Hallmark ornaments. One of my favorite pasttimes is putting the tree up and seeing all the pretty lights and riding around to look at the yard decorations...and I think it's okay to never grow out of that.
Ryan: It depends - I really like clear lights....think they're very classic, but ever since I've been with my sweetheart, she's turned me on to the colored ones.
13. Favorite Christmas Song?
Lori: I can't choose between O Holy Night and Silent Night.
Ryan: Mary Did You Know....I know there's more that I really like but between Frosty the Snowman playing in the background and Preston crying, it's hard to think right now....
14. Angel or Star on top of your tree?
Lori: Right now there's nothing, because I still haven't found the perfect STAR tree topper.
Ryan: Star or maybe a tiger paw :)
15. Open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning
Lori: Both...Christmas Eve at Mama & Papa Tate's house and Christmas morning with Ryan, Mama (and this year Preston!) and then later Christmas day with Ryan's family
Ryan: Christmas morning but with family, we do both.
16. Most annoying thing about this time of year?
Lori: All the rudeness that comes out of people...if you wait until the last minute to shop, you just need to realize that it's going to be crowded, so just chill!
Ryan: Traffic.
17. When do you start shopping?
Lori: I try to start in November and finish in early December...but I always go to the mall on Christmas Eve just for fun.
Ryan: In my mind, the week after Christmas....but it never gets done until the week before Christmas.
18. Do you attend Christmas Parades?
Lori: I used to, but haven't been to one in a while.
Ryan: In front of the tv.
19. Do you send Christmas cards?
Lori: Yes. Every year.
Ryan: Yep.
20. What do you want for Christmas?
Lori: For all of us to be healthy so we can enjoy Preston's first Christmas.
Ryan: Lori didn't like my first answer and that was for Preston to behave himself.... so, I'll have to say a GPS system.

Preston's First Day at "School"
So, today was Preston's first day at daycare. Let me just say that this had to be the hardest day of my life. I had no idea how just how hard it would be.
Ryan and I took him around 9 this morning. Preston, of course, was perfectly fine; however, mommy was a basketcase. I would get ready to leave him, then cry, and stay a little longer. I stayed with him for the first couple of hours. I finally left and kept myself extremely busy all day so I didn't think about him EVERY minute (although the thought crossed my mind about every 5 minutes that I should go get him). I made it until about 3:30 and had to go back and get my boy! Preston's teachers had bet that I would be back around noon, so they said I did better than they thought I was going to do.
Mr. Preston did just fine and I know that going to daycare will be a great experience for him. It's just very hard for mommy and daddy in the beginning. I had to remind myself all day of a quote that I once read by Mother Teresa: "I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much."
God definitely tested my strength today, but as usual, I survived, and came out stronger.

Creating Our First Blog
It's late and I (Lori) should be sleeping, since Preston is sleeping, but we've been wanting to set this up for a while - so here I am, while Ryan is watching CSI Miami. It will probably take us some time to get this going, but I figured I'd go ahead and get started so I could see how this all works. I'm basically just typing this so I have something to look at...by no means is this supposed to be entertaining or interesting...
